DCN Appoints Mikal Powers as President

Powers will be responsible for overseeing campus and online operations, college expansion, including budget management, student admissions and the enhancement of the academic and student support environment.

Denver College of Nursing (DCN), is pleased to announce Mikal Powers, M.Ed., as the new president.

As president, Powers will be responsible for overseeing campus and online operations, college expansion, including budget management, student admissions and the enhancement of the academic and student support environment. His leadership will drive the college’s mission of preparing future nursing and healthcare leaders by providing outstanding nursing education at all levels.

“We are excited to welcome Mikal to Denver College of Nursing,” said Denver College of Nursing Board of Trust Chair Dr. Andrea Lindell. “Mikal’s extensive experience in education, along with his forward-thinking approach to student success, and focus on fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus environment aligns perfectly with Denver College of Nursing. His dedication to shaping the next generation of nursing professionals will be instrumental in our continued success.”

Powers brings over 20 years of experience in higher education and a strong commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement having previously served as campus and academic director at the University of Phoenix in Southern California.

His academic credentials include a Master of Education in Adult Education and Training, Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Psychology. Powers also serves as lieutenant commander in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves, serving as an Operations Officer for U.S. Navy Maritime Security Squadron Eleven.

Originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, Powers is a Navy veteran having served as a Helicopter Search and Rescue Swimmer and Combat Aircrewman.in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is married to wife Ashley Powers and together they have two young sons, Dutch and Dallas. Outside of work, Powers enjoys exploring the outdoors with his family and engaging in activities like scuba diving and skiing.
