Denver College of Nursing Students Raise $600 to Feed Ronald McDonald House Families

Denver College of Nursing (DCN) students raised $600 among themselves to prepare and serve three dinners for over 30 families staying at Ronald McDonald House-Denver and Ronald McDonald House-Aurora, said Dr. Marcia Bankirer, DCN president (www.denvercollegeofnursing.edu)

“Through DCN’s Student Nurse Association, DCN students have made a commitment to the Ronald McDonald Houses to fundraise, cook and serve meals to families on a quarterly basis,” Bankirer explained. “Students contribute their own funds to feed these families and engage with the parents, their children and their other family members who are staying there awaiting word on the care and treatment of a child.”

“Helping a sick child fight his or her illness takes a big emotional toll on a family. As nursing students, these families talk to us about their health experiences with their child and ask us health related questions. They appreciate that we help them and that we’re there to listen,” said Heather Leck, president of DCN’s Student Nurse Association.

The 24 DCN students who participated included: Ann Abraham, Daya Bhakta, Ruth Bowen, Andrea Childers, Janeth Cruz, Bethany Darnell, Arame Diagne, Tiffanni Foster, Andrea Garcia, Mike Gnacinski, Kayla Jenulis, Devon Johnson, Jane Jung, Menna Kubisiak, Heather Leck, Miranda Lozoya, Jill Lysenger, Madelyn McMenamin, Emily Moats, Xochitl Moreno, James Potter, Amy Roaddatz, Lisa Shurter and Erin Tousley.
